The former CEO of the Food Standards Agency and group quality director at Tesco will be speaking about the ingredient labelling trials and food safety review he recently initiated at Pret A Manger. He will discuss the insights gained from the pilot programme, and what the wider industry and government can learn from the findings.
Tim was appointed as Chairman of Pret’s Food Advisory Panel in October 2018. Prior to taking on this role, Tim served as Tesco’s Group Quality Director from 2012 to 2017, helping to restore confidence in the retailer’s food policies following the “horsemeat” crisis and during the Tesco turnaround between 2014 and 2017.
Previously, Tim was for five years the Chief Executive of the UK’s Food Standards Agency, where he created the ground-breaking national food hygiene rating system.
Tim graduated from Leeds University with a degree in Microbiology and Zoology. From 1979 to 1994 he worked at Northern Foods, finishing his career there as a Divisional Director.
After five years at Sara Lee Corporation, where he was President of the UK business, Tim joined Express Dairies PLC as Executive Director. Express Dairies merged with Arla Foods in October 2003, where he was appointed Chief Executive in early 2005.
